Mesa is a ritual bundle, also called a medicine bundle. It holds stones from specific mountains. These stones are called 'our stars' (estrellas or khuyas), for they have been given to us by our apus, the mountain spirits. It also contains sacred and powerful objects that a “paqo” assembles during his/her work along the sacred path and which she/he uses in ceremony and to heal.

Khuya - A stone that carries paricularly fine or abundant energy and so is considered a stone of power; it is used for healing and /or communicating with the spirit world. Most Andean mesas are comprised primarily of khuyas. The word itself means "affection."
